“Edelweiss” – 26′ Gehrleins Open Bass – 1959 – $75,000
EDELWEISS is a fine example of a classic cruising vessel, recently refitted and totally restored. This Gehrleins 26 was designed as an open bass boat with a cuddy cabin and single engine diesel, though she would be considered both an express cruiser and a downeaster by today’s standards. EDELWEISS was completely rebuilt in 2000 using the highest quality craftsmanship and materials.
Owner’s Comments: “She was one of the last of about 50 boats built by Gehrleins in Lindenhurst, Long Island. She was the “Cadillac” of these type of boats. The previous owner bought her in 1967. His son decided to restore her in 1999-2000. The only thing original are her topside mahogany lapstrake planks. he spared no expense and spent $255,000 for the restoration. I have 50 pages of detailed work orders from Brewers Yacht Haven in Stamford, CT where the work was done by Erik Christensen (Danish boatbuilder). I also have extensive photos of the rebuilding process.” This 26′ Gehrleins is one of the finest examples of a totally refitted and restored cruising vessel that we have ever seen. Her design was originally as an open bass boat with a cuddy cabin and single engine diesel. However, by today’s standards we could consider her a mix of both an express and a downeaster. This vessel was completely rebuilt in 2000. No expense was spared in the reconstruction of this great vessel. She is powered by a new Yanmar 125 HP turbo diesel engine with fresh water cooling. She has 385 hours on her since her new installation. Her hull is 3/4″ Mahogany lapstrake planking over laminated white oak frames and her transom is Honduran mahogany varnished. She has Garmin fishfinder and Apelco VHF marine radio. Her owner will consider all reasonable offers.
Surveyor’s comments: “The condition & equipment of this vessel is “Bristol Condition” for her age and type. Her housekeeping is very good and the vessel’s systems showed signs of professional maintenance and restoration. The machinery is in like new condition with low hours. The vessel is owned and maintained by a very experienced yachtsman who prides himself on keeping his boat in pristine condition.”
She can be seen by appointment.
