				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>SEAFARER is a 1926 classic raised deck motor yacht, designed by John Winslow and built at Lake Washington Shipyard in Seattle, Washington. SEAFARER is a classic gentleman&#8217;s cruising yacht, and care was taken to preserve her period details and beauty. She has a rounded bilge and a near plumb stem, a full keel with inboard keel shoe hung rudder and a transom stern. There are rubrails on the hull sides, varnished caprails and varnished handrails run on bronze stanchions around the decks.</p>
<p>This boat received an extensive restoration in 2006-2007. This included refinishing, re-caulking, some wood repair, extensive new plumbing, installation of new galley appliances, and new granite counters in the galley. The vessel was completely re-wired including new fixtures, electrical panels and engine instrumentation. A new generator was installed. The wheelhouse received all new electronics and all the wood inside and out was stripped and re-finished. More recently the hull was refastened with galvanized screws from the keel up three planks in the center of the hull, under the engine room. Also a new propeller shaft, cutless bearing, and pillow block bearing were installed just two years ago. The cable steering has been replaced with a hydraulic steering unit.</p>
<p>The hull is carvel planked Alaska yellow cedar, galvanized boat nail fastened to bent oak frames. The deck is teak planks on beams, and the cabin sides are planked teak with canvas cabin tops. There is also a raised wheelhouse and a comfotable cockpit with &#8220;U&#8221;-shaped seating.</p>
<p>The interior reflects the original period of the boat, and is full of varnished, fine joinery throughout. There is a master stateroom, guest berths, two heads, a galley with granite countertops, a main salon and an enclosed engine room. All finish work and details have been maintained to the highest degree.</p>
<p>SEAFARER is an opportunity to own a pedigree classic and an accessible price. The current owner is an extremely knowledgeable mariner and has maintained this boat with a great deal of integrity.</p>

Keel, stem, horn timber, and stern posts are white oak. Well made and well cared for this comfortable cruiser will be getting an updated survey this spring. New well deck, well deck ceiling and gratings can be seen in attached photos. Also all new 12V and 110V wiring. Classic, comfortable, and attractive are words well used to describe this rare proven design.</p>

<p>The FP47 (Cape James) was only 125 ft long. It was built originally for the Alaska freight and passenger traffic. The FP47 (Cape James) was also refitted as a communication ship in Sydney, Australia.  It had two new diesel generators installed as power units for the electronic equipment which included two American army Morse code transmitters. The original masts had to be re-positioned to counteract the weight of the heavy electrical equipment.  However, the calculations were incorrect and the masts leaned forward making the FP47 (Cape James) look like she was moving backwards. The official radio code for the FP47 (Cape James) was "Bedpan".</p>

<p>SOME HISTORY</p>
<p>The Story of the Little Radio Ship, the FP47<br />
We mentioned that the &#8220;Apache&#8221; had a co-traveller, a little vessel known as the FP47. Let&#8217;s look now at the story of this lesser known sea traveller which was in reality another radio broadcasting ship.</p>
<p>The FP47 was a much smaller ship than the &#8220;Apache&#8221;, at just 125 ft long and it was built originally for the Alaska freight and passenger traffic. This ship was also taken to Sydney in Australia at the same time as the &#8220;Apache&#8221; where it also was completely rebuilt and re-outfitted. Two diesel generators were installed in the FP47 as power units for all of the electronic equipment which included two American army Morse Code transmitters at 500 watts each.</p>
<p>In rebuilding the ship, the original masts were re-positioned in an attempt to counteract the weight of the heavy electrical equipment. However, the calculations were incorrect and the masts leaned forward giving the appearance that the ship was moving backwards. The official radio code for the FP47 was &#8220;Bedpan&#8221;.</p>
<p>The original delivery date for both the &#8220;Apache&#8221; and the FP47 was planned for late November 1944. However, the events of the war speeded up and the FP47 hurriedly sailed from Sydney Harbour with the &#8220;Apache&#8221; right at the end of September. Both ships, with their electronic equipment still untested, arrived at General MacArthur&#8217;s forward headquarters in Hollandia, New Guinea, on October 10, just 2 days before sailing time for the return invasion of the Philippines.</p>
<p>Two days later, the whole invasion fleet left Hollandia for the Philippines, with the &#8220;Apache&#8221; trailing behind, and the smaller FP47 trailing behind the &#8220;Apache&#8221;. The entire flotilla arrived in Manila Harbor exactly one week later.</p>
<p>The purpose for the radio ship, the FP47, was to be a subordinate radio ship to the &#8220;Apache&#8221;. The Morse Code transmitters sent war news and despatches to the &#8220;Apache&#8221; for onward transmission to the United States. The FP47 was a communication vessel for use by newspaper and radio correspondents, whereas the &#8220;Apache&#8221; was a radio broadcast station and a navy communication facility.</p>
<p>The FP47 saw duty in the coastal areas of the Philippines and other islands in the western Pacific, usually in conjunction with the &#8220;Apache&#8221;, but not always. After the conclusion of hostilities, the FP47 was sent back to the Philippines, were it carried radio traffic in Morse Code apparently in conjunction with land based stations that had been re-established.</p>
<p>That&#8217;s the last that is known about the little radio ship, known by number and not by name.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Ramon Jackson wrote the following addition:</p>
<p>While they did often appear together FP-47 was anything but a &#8220;subordinate radio ship to the &#8216;Apache&#8217;&#8221; as FP-47 was the operational communications ship for operations and Apache was a host for news people. I recently added extracts (<a href="http://patriot.net/%7Eeastlnd2/SWPA%20CP%20Ships.htm" target="_blank">http://patriot.net/~eastlnd2/SWPA%20CP%20Ships.htm</a>) from the official history to be linked from my web page <a href="http://patriot.net/%7Eeastlnd2/army-sc.htm" target="_blank">http://patriot.net/~eastlnd2/army-sc.htm</a> that has the following text you might use to correct that mistake:</p>
<p><em>General Akin himself had no doubt of the value and necessity of Army communications ships in SWPA combat. On 21 March 1944, he set up in GHQ SWPA Signal Section a separate Seaborne Communications Branch to plan for extensive communications afloat and to provide a more adequate CP fleet. The first task was to obtain ships more suitable than the Harold or the Argosy.68 Such a ship was the freighterpassenger, FP-47, acquired by Signal Corps in March 1944, at Sydney. The Army had built her in the United States in 1942, a sturdy, wooden, diesel-driven vessel only 114 feet long, but broad, of 370 tons, intended for use in the Aleutians. Instead she had sailed to Australia as a tug. The Signal Corps fitted her with Australian transmitters and receivers, also with an SCR-300 walkietalkie, two SCR-808&#8242;s, and an SCR-608, plus power equipment, antennas, and, finally, quarters for the Signal Corps operators. The Australian sets were intended for long-range CW signals operating in the high frequencies; the SCR&#8217;s were short-range VHF FM radios for use in the fleet net and for ship-toshore channels. Armed with antiaircraft weapons and machine guns (served by 12 enlisted men of the Army ship and gun crews), navigated by a crew of 6 Army Transport Service officers and the 12 men already mentioned, the FP-47 was ready for service in June. Her Signal Corps complement consisted of one officer and 12 men.</em></p>
<p>The facilities of FP-47 were needed immediately at Hollandia to supplement the heavily loaded signal nets that could hardly carry the message burden imposed by the invasion and the subsequent build-up there of a great base. Arriving on 25 June, she anchored offshore and ran cables to the message centers on land. Her powerful transmitters opened new channels to SWPA headquarters in Brisbane and to the advance headquarters still at Port Moresby. At Hollandia, and at Biak, to which the FP-47 moved early in September, this one ship handled an average of 7,000 to 11,000 code groups a day.69</p>
<p>Before the Philippine invasion, the CP boats acquired shipboard antrac. Four Army communications ships, PCE-848, 849, and 850, and the Apache (primarily for use by news reporters), arrived at Hollandia on 2 October 1944, as the Southwest Pacific headquarters readied for the invasion of Leyte.</p>
<p>Later in the Philippines:</p>
<p><em>The three PCE&#8217;s constituted the CP fleet for the Leyte operation, along with two others, the FP-47 (the only holdover from Signal Corps&#8217; first communications ships in the New Guinea fighting) and the Apache. The Apache was something new in Signal Corps experience. It was a communications ship specifically and solely intended for public relations work. General Akin&#8217;s Seaborne Communications Branch had gained enough experience in shipboard Army signals so that when the SWPA public relations officer asked for a correspondents&#8217; broadcast ship to send press copy to the United States (there had been difficulties getting press copy through Australian Postmaster General facilities), the Signal Corps men answered “Yes.” They acquired the Apache, a 185-foot, 650-ton ship, which had served first as a revenue cutter, then as a Coast Guard vessel. Because of her age, fifty-five years, she had been sold for scrap just before World War II. Resurrected by the Maritime Commission, she was used for a while by the Navy. Then, in the somewhat sour words of her skipper, “Like everything else that nobody wants, she was turned over to the Army.”</em></p>
<p>In July 1944 her conversion to the best known vessel of Signal Corps&#8217; CP fleet began in Sydney harbor. By dexterously combining various pieces of equipment, the Signal Corps installed a 10-kilowatt voice-modulated transmitter—a shortwave radiotelephone that could reach the United States directly. Radio relay, AN/TRC-1, was added to provide circuits to shore terminals. A variety of antenna rigs, a studio, and a control room completed the floating broadcast facility for war correspondents, who could now sail close into the theaters, pick up reports and news from shore over the VHF radio relay, and prepare and broadcast programs home quickly and directly. With a Signal Corps detachment of three officers and eleven enlisted men and with a ship and gun crew similar to that aboard the FP-47, the Apache was readied and sailed to Hollandia early in the autumn of 1944.17</p>
<p>Designated Task Unit 78.1.12 by the Navy, the five ships of the CP fleet were readied in October at Hollandia: the PCE-848, 849, and 850, the Apache, and the FP-47, which also served press needs. Aboard the PCE-848, General Akin occupied a cabin along with one of his staff officers who handled General MacArthur&#8217;s messages (MacArthur himself sailed in the USS Nashville). Aboard the 848 also was a VHF team to operate radio relay equipment. The PCE-849 carried General Akin&#8217;s assistant, more Signal Corps men, and an intercept team of the 978th Signal Service Company. The duty of the latter, a group of a dozen officers and men under Capt. Charles B. Ferguson, was to intercept enemy broadcasts and to receive messages from the guerrilla radios in the Philippines. The PCE-850 carried Colonel Reichelderfer and his Signal Corps assistants serving General Krueger&#8217;s Sixth Army headquarters. Still other Signal Corps men worked communications circuits aboard the Nashville and the Wasatch serving Generals MacArthur and Krueger, respectively, using an assortment of radio relay and portable radio types.18</p>
<p>The FP-47 often assisted in the transmission of news from the Apache, as operational requirements allowed, but was primarily the operational communications ship with Apache being for public relations/news.</td>

A new helm station has been installed on the starboard side with full instrumentation and controls. Aft to port is a built in L-shaped sette with hi-lo table. and ample room for occasional chairs. On the starboard side on the aft bulkhead are the new DC and AC ciruit breaker panels with gauges for the batteries, the shoreline or generator power and the fuel and water tanks. A door from the deckhouse leads aft to a companionway or weather-deck with access to the completly private master stateroom. Down 4 steps to the master stateroom with port and starboard berths, private head with stall shower and large hanging locker. All interior areas have new reverse cycle air conditioning systems.Aft is the cockpit with a transom door. The main engines are below with a new 13KW Kohler generator in a sound shield. The Huckins M56 vee-drives were rebuilt by Huckins. Two new Sealand VacuFlush heads were installed each with a new 35 gal. Dometic holding tank in Hold &#8220;B&#8221; with overboard pumpout and deck fitting for dockside pumpout. A 45 gal. gray water tank has also been installed Hold &#8220;B&#8221; for capturing gray water from the galley and each head/shower. New Aqua Drive jack shafts from engine transmissions to vee-drives were installed. New Kohler 13 KW generator in sound shield was installed. New reverse cycle Climma air conditioning &#8211; 3 zones, one 16,000 btu &amp; two 12,000 btu. Boat has been totally re-plumbed with polyethelene lines and a 12 volt Caliber fresh water pump.</p>

Meridian was built in 1964 on order to her original owner&#8217;s specifications. The hull construction is double diagonal Phillipine mahogany 3/8&#8243; planking bonded with resorcinal resin and then sheathed in 20 oz. fiberglass cloth set in epoxy resin. The planking is set over sawn white oak frames with laminated white oak keel and keelson. The decks and superstructure is 3/4&#8243; marine grade plywood over Phillipine mahogany framing structure. The decks and cabin tops were sheathed in 10 oz. fiberglass cloth set in epoxy. In the recent restoration a layer of Dynel was added to the decks and cabin tops. After all restoration work was completed, the entire exterior of the vessel was painted with Awlgrip Matterhorn white with a green boottop. The interior was completely painted including the engine compartment and Hold &#8220;A&#8221; and Hold &#8220;B&#8221;</td>

This classic model Huckins Out Islander has just completed a major restoration at the Brooklin Boatyard in Center Harbor, Maine. The restoration is presently (September 2010) 98% complete with the following items in process: Installation of venturi windscreen at upper helm, aft railing at upper helm and on the steps to trunk cabin, and mast for mounting radar antenna. Natural cork flooring has been installed throughout the interior. The interior softgoods (i.e. curtains, cushions,mattresses &amp; misc. decor, etc.) will be deferred to a new owner. The vessel has been totally gone over and fully upgraded to compare with a new cold molded vessel built today.<br />
This restored classic is available only due to the owner&#8217;s change in plans, and is priced at roughly half of the total investment. An excellent opportunity to acquire a well known classic that is comparable to a new vessel.</td>

<div>This exquisite wooden classic cruiser built for the Commodore of the Seattle Yacht Club, Quent Williams, who was also a furniture designer and builder. Williams knew boats and had the eye, the skill, the taste (and the funds) to make Kay Dee II the most exquisite miniature yacht possible.Kay Dee II is 36 foot long with a 8 foot 2 inch beam, with transom stern. This is a slim shape that moves through the water with little turbulence and allows her to do 20 knots. The hull is double planked Port Orford cedar. The cabin work is all teak. The bow has a razor edge where it should be and a flare above water that knocks down the spray. The forward cockpit seats five. The aft cockpit seats four. The bridge deck is fully enclosed. There is a forward cabin which can sleep two easily. Forward of this cabin is the toilet. The after cabin has the galley at the forward end and again can easily sleep two and seat six at the table.Kay Dee II is arguably the best traditional express cruiser ever built. Her pedigree design, construction and details are a perfect blend of technology and art that garners attention wherever she cruises.</div>

<p>The Little Harbor WhisperJet 38 features a modern deep-V hull designed specifically for jet drives, with an innovative twin chine configuration that minimizes waterline beam for performance and fuel economy and maximizes interior volume for accommodations.</p>
<p>The twin chine eliminates annoying "wave slap" common to many boats while at rest. Dead rise angle is 17 degrees at the transom. The classic hull profile has an aggressive bow overhang and low-profile deck configuration.</p>
<p>Lovely Lucy also features a unique, custom aluminum flybridge with auxiliary helm station.</p>
<p>The helm area has been designed to position all instruments and controls at their optimal location in relation to the helmsman. Raytheon chartplotter, radar and other electronics renewed in 2009. A work area is located across from the helm so traditional charts can be used and, with Raymarine repeater and binnacle at this station.</p>
<p>Her large and comfortable cockpit salon has an L-shaped settee and casual seating for four. Below, interior accommodations are both straightforward and commodious. The owner's stateroom forward includes a large U-berth (as opposed to the typical narrow V-berth) with two 36-inch wide berths that can be converted into a double with a filler piece. There is a large hanging locker and numerous drawers and storage lockers. A private owner's head and shower is located on one side. Further aft, the layouts a large galley to port with cold-plate refrigerator and freezer, propane stove and abundant storage lockers.</p>
<p>The elegant yet functional interior features solid American Cherry trim. The overhead panels are covered with padded fabric and are completely removable. Main bulkhead surfaces are Formica, drawers are solid cherry, and locker doors are Formica with cherry trim. Doors and drawers feature Kroon flush positive-lock latches and roller bearing drawer slides. Cabin soles are varnished teak and holly.</p>
<p>The main engines are surrounded by a carefully engineered, soundproofed compartment, making the raised salon a comfortable, quiet place while underway, even at high speeds. The water jet system is located well aft for easy access via hatches through the aft deck. The water jet configuration eliminates the need for external shafts, props, and rudders, thereby removing a substantial amount of running vibration and allowing one to virtually run right over floating hazards - such as trap buoys - without fouling. The resulting shallow draft also allows one to safely gunkhole shallow waters off-limits to most boats of this size. As a final benefit, the water jet provides superior maneuverability in tight quarters utilizing twin jet configurations.</p>
<p>The hull and deck are built of molded fiberglass using Vinylester resin and foam core. The hull lamination is further reinforced with a Kevlar hybrid to increase collision strength and add stiffness. All fuel tanks are welded aluminum. Structural bulkheads are cored fiberglass bonded to hull and deck. All deck hardware is polished stainless steel. The hull lamination is further reinforced with a Kevlar hybrid to increase collision strength and add stiffness. All fuel tanks are welded aluminum. Structural bulkheads are cored fiberglass bonded to hull and deck. All deck hardware is polished stainless steel. The deck and hull joint features a low maintenance molded rail with optional teak cap that can be varnished or oiled. Decks and cabin tops can be finished with contrasting non-skid. A molded rubrail with stainless striker is provided.</p>
